Hope for Haiti

The Middle School French Club sponsored a fundraiing drive called Hope for Haiti from January 25 to February 9. The event raised $701 which was donated to Save the Children. Save the Children is an organization that works for and with children at risk of hunger and malnutrition and those affected by natural disaster, war and conflict. It has been operating in Haiti since 1985.

To raise the money, students in each grade level were encouraged to meet a goal by putting their donations into a windowed box. This challenge and the opportunity to help the people of Haiti really motivated students to give what they could throughout the two weeks. They were also inspired by the movie "Pay It Forward", which was the theme of our Service Learning Day in December. All grades met the goal and MMS celebrated by having a Hat/Pajama Day on February 9.

One of the goals of French Club, new to MMS this year, is to sponsor a French-speaking country in need. Haiti was an obvious coice after the devastating earthquake. Thank you to everyone who participated. A special thanks to the Phelps Community Bank who counted over $340 in coins by hand!
