Homework
Reading nightly with your child is very important.  Your child should bring home a reading bag each night.  In the bag are books that your child independently choose, as well as at least one book that was read during guided reading with a teacher.  As your child reads ask questions to check their comprehension.  They should be able to talk about the characters, the setting, the problem and the solution in the story.  Also encourage your child to make a personal connection to the story.  The reading bags should come back to school each day!
