Classroom Expectations

TOGETHER WE CAN HAVE A GREAT YEAR

We expect that children, parents and teachers will work as a team to create a wonderful, enriching learning environment for all students to feel successful and challenged.

TEACHERS PROMISE

As your child's teachers we will do our best to provide the tools needed for students to gain a deeper understanding of what they are learning.  We will provide parents with frequent communication about the progress of each child.

PARENTS' RESPONSIBILITY

A significant way that you can help you child become successful in school is to make sure that absences are kept to a minimum.  We expect that each child will come to school ready to learn.  Students need plenty of rest, a good breakfast, and support at home for homework.  Homework is assigned every night of the week and is expected to be completed.  Homework will average about 45 minutes to 1 hour each night.

STUDENTS' RESPONSIBILITY

Students need to come in prepared with homework completed to the best of their ability.  Neatness does matter, so all homework should be done with quality and care.  Students need to come into school ready to learn and with a positive attitude. Students need to be respectful, courteous and have a hard-working attitude.

HOMEWORK HELPFUL IDEAS

As students begin fourth grade homework sometimes gets frustrating and arguments begin to occur.  To help avoid this early on in the year, set up a schedule, a specific time everyday, and a place for your child to do homework.  By setting up a scheduled time for homework and offering assistance we needed, parents and children often feel less frustrated. Also, at times we will send home long-term projects.  Helping your child make a plan for the project will help get the project done in small steps instead of the fight to get it all done in one night.  By doing this now, students will have a better grasp on time management and setting goals for themselves.

CLASSROOM SETTING

Our classroom is set up so that all students can learn at varying levels.  We allow for independent work, small group work, and whole class instruction.  We feel passionate about teaching and love working with fourth graders.  Our students grow from our enthusiasm and discover that learning is fun, interesting, and enriching.
