Midlakes J.V. Golf

Physical – you MUST have proof of a completed physical by the first day of tryouts.  See your school nurse or family doctor.

Rules

Golfers are to be neat at all practices and matches - - shirts tucked in, caps worn properly.  Khaki pants or shorts - tan, black, or navy (no jeans), and polo shirts with collars (no t-shirts), and dress sweaters or parkas if needed (no sweatshirts).

Golfers are to be familiar with rules of golf and etiquette (see “rules in brief), and obey both.  No cheating of any kind will be tolerated, and breaches of etiquette will likewise not be tolerated.  There will be NO foul or inappropriate language, or trash talking of any kind.  J.V. golf is a learning experience, and must be respected as such.

Practice – there will be regularly scheduled practice sessions beginning on August 15th, (see attached schedule) but you should be working on practice drills and putting, in your yard and living room (wiffle golf balls are helpful).

Physical fitness - - golfers are expected to stretch as a team before all practices and matches.  Golfers are expected to complete at least 20 good sit ups and 10 good push ups at each meeting, and be able to jog for 10 minutes - - these are minimum physical requirements to be a member of this team.

Cuts and weekly rankings will be based on four criteria -

1.  Participation (golfers who do not show for practices will not play in matches);

2.  Attitude - willingness to learn from others, listen, and respect for the game;

3.  Raw score - you are expected to practice basic skills on you own time and who improvement over the season;

4.  Match scores - this is a competitive sport, and you are expected to improve your match scores over time.

Position in matches (1-6) will be determined each week by these criteria.

Schedules are subject to change, and players will be notified as soon as possible of those changes.  Students should meet in coach’s room at least 10 minutes prior to the bus departure, which depends on the meet.
