Floor Hockey

Our floor hockey unit allows students to explore various striking patterns with long-handled implements.  The skill of striking is used in many games and safety is our number one concern with this unit.  We call high sticks if the blade of the hockey stick goes above the knee. Students are expected to wear safety goggles at all times. If a high stick or goggle infraction is called, they go into the penalty box (a small cardboard box with a door cut into it) for one minute.  The use of the penalty box is fun and the students like that it seems just like ice hockey!

Objectives

psychomotor: Students will be able to demonstrate the proper skills of dribbling and passing. Students will be able to hold the stick properly and not bring the blade above their knee.

Cognitive:  Students will be able to explain how to pass the ball and describe the three different ways to move the ball on the floor.  students will be able to explain our safety rules.

Affective: Students will be able to work cooperatively with a partner and in group settings.

Assessment

We assess our students through group questions & answers and they are given a skills assessment on passing and dribbling.
