Dear Parents,

The Holidays are approaching fast and I wanted to cover what we have been doing in the All-Star Classroom lately. Recently we started a Social Studies Unit that entails map skills and some geography. Students have learned to look at maps and get a basic understanding of how they work. Testing their skills by doing scavenger hunts in the school or outside has been used to make this unit more hands on for the classroom. I will continue to introduce parts of the map as the quarter continues.

In math the students continue to work towards there age appropriate level. It would be great for parents to review numbers and counting for some of the students over break.

During the remaining weeks before break we will be participating in many crafts dealing with the holiday season. The students just heard the book “The Steadfast soldier “ and are creating there very own toy soldiers to be hung on the wall. We will also be creating reindeer hats, Christmas Trees, etc. Most of these will get hung up on our walls but will go home at a later date J.

This week we had an excursion to the Phelps Museum where the students learned about holidays the old fashion way. The hosts showed the students how family members made cookies years ago. Students were also given a chance to make their own ornaments which went home in their bags.

I hope everyone has a great holiday and new year!!!

                                                                                                Sincerely,

                                                                                                Michael Quagliata
