The Phelps-Clifton Springs Central School District celebrates the learning and accomplishments of students in materials that may include, but are not limited to, student names, honors/awards, non-graded work, photographs as well as video and voice recordings. 

This information may be released to local media, published in District publications, posted at school or public functions, or printed in a school yearbook. If published, a student’s name or likeness may appear with the intent to highlight/praise student learning and accomplishments.

Last year, the Communications staff covered nearly 300 school events, during school hours and after. This includes Harvest and Ag Fest, theatre, athletic events, graduation, student awards and inductions. The list also includes the activities of the One Room Schoolhouse, Midlakes Graduates of Distinction and the Midlakes Athletics Hall of Fame.

Also, the Federal Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) allows school districts to release certain pieces of school "directory information," unless parents choose to exercise their right of refusal. 

Per FERPA, the District must publish an annual public notice informing parents and students of their right to refuse the release of such information. A full explanation can be found under Board Policies on our BoardDocs website. 

No action is required if you agree to allow the District to publish and/or display information for non-commercial purposes. Those not granting permission should clearly include your student’s first and last name as well as the grade level, and cmarquart@midlakes.org, or submit this information along with your desire (in writing) to your child’s school.

Given there has been so much covered, some images never get used. Instead of deleting those images, or leaving them to use up storage space, the images are going to be made available to parents and guardians. The Communications Office has created a new family photo request form, where parents and guardians can request images of their student. Parents are asked to submit their request using an online form, indicating the building, event and student name. Requests will be vetted and checked using ParentSquare and SchoolTool. It should be noted that not every image comes out, and some students may not have been documented during a particular event, but we will try to honor each request.
