Role & Responsibilities
The Board of Education serves as the board of directors of the school district to oversee the education of the community's youth. The Board of Education fulfills this role by carrying out the following responsibilities:
- Hiring and evaluating the Superintendent of Schools, who is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the district and administration of Board policies.
- Establishing the direction of the district by developing a shared vision and goals.
- Setting policy.
- Adopting a budget for voter approval.
The Board of Education of the Phelps-Clifton Springs School District is made up of seven volunteers elected to serve a three-year term. Terms are staggered so all board positions are never open at the same time.
Members of the board work as a leadership team to ensure the provision of services to support the success of every student in the district. The Board’s powers and duties are derived from the New York State Constitution, the law of New York State and the rulings of the New York State Commissioner of Education.
The Board invites members of the school community to learn more about the operations of the district and to submit public comments during regularly meetings and public hearings held throughout the year. All meeting agendas, dates, and minutes are posted to BoardDocs at https://go.boarddocs.com/ny/midlakes/Board.nsf/Public.
Board meetings, unless otherwise noted, begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Board of Education Conference Room (room 103) of Midlakes Elementary School. Letters and questions to the Board of Education can be addressed to District Clerk Pam Mann in District Office at 1490 State Route 488, Clifton Springs, NY 14432 and be calling (315) 548-6420.
