School Board Elections
Candidates that would like their name to appear on the ballot for the Phelps-Clifton Springs Board of Education must meet qualifications and submit name by May 11, 2020. There will be no minimum threshold for the number of signatures required for individuals to be placed on the June 9, 2020 ballot, except that the candidate must meet all other requirements, including applicable residency and age.
To be eligible to run for a Board of Education, candidates must have been a resident of the District for a continuous and uninterrupted period of 12 months, be able to read and write and be 18 years of age.
Sworn statements of expenditures must be submitted as explained on the attached document.
School Board members are elected to “at-large” seats, meaning that if there are vacant positions of different lengths, positions are filled in decreasing order of the number of votes and length of office. Consequently the candidate with the highest number of votes is entitled to the position of the longest length. The following vacancies are to be filled in the upcoming election:
- One, three-year term currently held by Laura Cirone (begins July 1, 2020).
- One, three-year term currently held by Sheri Scherbyn (begins July 1, 2020).
- One, two-year term currently held by Jake Amidon (begins June 10, 2020 and expires June 30, 2022).
Candidates must submit the petition provided below by the District Clerk NO LATER THAN 5 P.M. ON MONDAY, MAY 11, 2020, for a candidate's name to appear on the ballot.
