Midlakes Elementary students created letters for St. Jude Children's Hospital and Color A Smile foundation as part of a month-long emphasis on kindness and the District's Character Strong social-emotional curriculum.
The Pupil Support Office shared a calendar of daily acts of kindness to students of all ages and families to help strengthen and build positive character traits in February, also known as "Kindness Month" at Midlakes.
Students spoke during their social-emotional learning time in class on how compliments, holding the door open for someone else, and gift giving are all examples of being kindness to others.
Also, students in grades 4-6 made cards with hopeful and inspirational messages for children with cancer and other illnesses at St. Jude's Hospital. Other students (K-3) designed cards for Color A Smile foundation for people in nursing homes.
"I believe that you are brave," read one of the letters by a Midlakes student. "I believe that you are strong and you inspire me."
