Superintendent's Message: Jan. 18 Update on COVID-19

Today, January 18, 2021, the District was notified by the Ontario County Department of Health that one Midlakes Elementary student has tested positive for COVID-19. The elementary student last attended school on January 12. As per privacy guidelines, no additional identifying information can be shared.

The Ontario County Department of Health has confirmed that the student had no contact with Midlakes students or staff on campus during the contagious period. Therefore, while the student is in isolation as directed by the Department of Health, there is no further action required at Midlakes Elementary School. The District still looks forward to the return of grades 5-12 to the hybrid model tomorrow, January 19.

Thank you, once again, for following our health and safety protocols. The actions of our students, staff, and families help limit the secondary exposure associated with positive cases. In addition to wearing face coverings, observing social distancing, practicing good hand hygiene, and completing the daily health screening, we especially appreciate students and staff staying home when feeling ill.

Please consult with one of our school nurses, prior to sending your child to school, if you have any concern regarding symptoms or reason to suspect an exposure to a positive case. By working together and taking extra precautions, we can help prevent the spread of COVID-19 at school and avoid any further disruptions to our hybrid model of instruction.

We will continue to work closely with the Department of Health, monitor suspected and confirmed cases of COVID-19, and communicate with families and staff in a timely manner.  Decisions regarding our hybrid model will be based on our ability to manage positive cases, maintain appropriate staffing, and provide a safe environment for students and staff.

Thank you for your continued patience and cooperation.

Matt Sickles, superintendent
