Superintendent's Message: April 14 Update on COVID-19

Today, April 14, 2021, the Ontario County Department of Health informed us that one Midlakes Middle/High School student has tested positive for COVID-19. The student was last in school on April 9. Per privacy guidelines, no additional identifying information can be shared.

The Department of Health has determined that the student did not have contact with Midlakes students or staff during the contagious period. Therefore, no additional action is required. While the student who tested positive is in isolation as directed by the Department of Health, all other Midlakes students and staff will continue in-person instruction as regularly scheduled according to our hybrid model.

Please continue to follow our health and safety protocols: stay home from school when feeling ill; practice social distancing; wear a face covering; wash your hands; and avoid large and unnecessary social gatherings. Please consult with one of our school nurses, prior to sending your child to school, if you have any concern regarding symptoms or reason to suspect an exposure to a positive case. By working together and taking extra precautions, we can help prevent the spread of COVID-19 at school.

We will continue to work closely with the Department of Health, monitor suspected and confirmed cases of COVID-19, and communicate with families and staff in a timely manner. Decisions regarding our hybrid model will be based on our ability to manage positive cases, maintain appropriate staffing, and provide a safe environment for students and staff.

Thank you for your continued patience and cooperation.

Sincerely,

Matt Sickles, Superintendent
