Superintendent’s Message: Updated Outdoor Mask Policy

Today Governor Cuomo provided an update to the COVID-19 mask policy as it relates to schools.

Based on the feedback from the CDC, New York State announced that individual school districts may lift outdoor mask requirements for students and staff. Therefore, effective Tuesday, June 8, Midlakes will no longer require masks for students and staff taking part in outdoor activities such as recess, physical education classes, other outdoor instruction, athletics, etc. Students and staff may continue to wear masks during these activities if they choose.

The Governor also confirmed that New York State will still require schools to continue the indoor mask mandate based upon the recommendations from the CDC. As a result, there will be no change to our indoor mask policy at this time. Students and staff will continue to wear masks on school buses and indoors.

We are encouraged by these incremental changes to state guidelines, as we continue to look forward to a return to “normal” operations as soon as possible. Most of all, we are committed to keeping our students and staff safe under the current circumstances and guidelines.

We will continue to keep you informed of any changes related to the New York State guidelines for schools. Thank you for your continued patience.
