Casper competed against other intermediate school students in grades 4-6 in the finals, and took the championship round by correctly answering "Panama" to the following question:

National Geographic Explorer Ricardo Moreno studies jaguars and human-jaguar conflict in places like Darien National Park, the largest national park in which Central America County?

"It was pretty hard,” Casper said. “We really had to study. Also, this morning, before school we studied. Whenever I had free time I would study."

Jacob Lannon finished in second place and Connor Carter placed third.

Casper took an online qualifying test with Midlakes Intermediate School Librarian Heather Bradley that could qualify him for the state-level competition and a chance to participate in a national contest sponsored by the National Geographic that's hosted by popular TV game show host Alex Trebec in Washington D.C. later in the spring.

The national champion wins a college scholarship and trip from the National Geographic.

Other finalists participating in Midlakes geography bee, included: Alex Bennett, Braxton Wilkes, Fernando Resendiz, Owen Fitzsimmons, Emma LaBour, Jeremy Myhill and Caleb Lewis.
