The Phelps-Clifton Springs Central School District has two new directors in place to lead its food services and facilities departments.
Mike Reifsteck, a Geneva resident with an extensive background in facilities management and emergency services has been hired as the district’s Director of Facilities. He takes over for Darryl Lord, who had been in that role on an interim basis.
Meanwhile, Jil Swarthout has taken as Director of Food and Nutrition. A Lyons resident, she was previously employed by Sodexo, a French-based food services management company handling meals at American schools, universities and other organizations.
“Knowing many in the community that went to Midlakes or had children attend our school district, they had very positive experiences to share. I kept hearing, 'Oh you’ll love working there. It’s a great group of folks',” said Swarthout. “I am thrilled to be part of this team and the Midlakes community.”
Reifsteck had worked as a maintenance mechanic and then as an electrician with the Geneva City School District before serving as the maintenance department supervisor for the Geneva Housing Authority.
He is also a 34-year member of the Oaks Corners Fire Department, where he served as chief for eight years and as either deputy chief or assistant chief for another eight years. Reifsteck was previously an emergency medical technician for 15 years.
“I feel that the maintenance department in a school district has a huge effect on the ability of the district to provide a safe and comfortable place for students to learn,” he said. “I’m very excited to be working at Midlakes.”
