Midlakes Elementary School continues to welcome incoming kindergartners and students for an expanded Universal Pre-Kindergarten program for the anticipated start of the 2020-2021 school year. Families must first complete an online pre-registration form.

»FORMS: UPK, Kindergarten pre-registration

Children turning five years old by December 1 of this year are eligible to enroll in kindergarten. Students attending the Extra Step program in 2019-2020 do not need to register. Children in the UPK program during the 2019-2020 school year must register in advance for kindergarten.

Families may use the visitor parking lot and should call (315) 548-6700 upon arrival. A member of the school’s office staff will meet visitors at Door ‘A’ to exchange packets. Visitors must wear a face-covering during this time.

Those with questions may contact Laurie Schmitt at or (315) 548-6708.

Parent Survey
Midlakes Elementary School also wants to get additional information from those who know incoming kindergartners the best. The school is asking parents to complete a brief online survey. This information will help in placing children in their kindergarten classroom.

Extra Step Program
Midlakes also offers a full-day program for young children who would benefit from additional development time before entering kindergarten. The program offers a blend of pre-school and kindergarten curriculum and focuses on readiness skills, language development, and social skill development.

Families can learn more about the Extra Step program in a video posted below. Students completing the yearlong program will be able to attend kindergarten the following year.

Those interested in learning more about the Extra Step Program may contact Extra Step teacher Cheryl Fisher (, Assistant Principal Alaina Benzer, or may call (585) 704-3614.
